Our Delivery Process - BusinessPro4®️

BusinessPro4®️ stands for business projects delivered in four processes

  1. Planning

  2. Initiation

  3. Delivery

  4. Close

We developed the BusinessPro4®️ methodology in response to a need to build and develop a better and more flexible way to deliver Business and IT programmes and projects within private and public sector organisations, without sacrificing the need to follow basic best practices.

Using the BusinessPro4®️ approach we have successfully led and delivered small, medium and large programmes and projects for many organisations across many different industries and sectors.

BusinessPro4®️ is a tried and tested methodology used to deliver programmes and projects on time, on budget and to requirements. It was developed in corporate, government and military environments as a direct result of the poor outcomes delivered by existing methodologies and behaviours.

BusinessPro4®️ is goal orientated which means the programme or project approach is fluid and flexible with the appropriate level of governance and control. It is also based upon the Servant Leader management philosophy (empowering subject matter experts) and the division of labour theory which is that profits and outputs are maximised if people specialise and do what they are trained to do, that’s the PM’s as delivery experts and the workstream leads as subject matter experts.

Why does BusinessPro4™ deliver?

strategic steering

Business Needs vs. Individual Agenda’s

From day one of the programme or project BusinessPro4® ensures the team understand the business needs and requirements by setting out the purpose and strategic objectives. The understanding of the business objectives is reinforced and cascaded down to all members of the team. This may seem like an obvious step but manager managers undertaking projects do not understand the intricacies of the business so do not make decisions based on what’s good for the bigger business picture.

BusinessPro®️ forces the strategic objectives to the fore and provides a framework for the strategic questions to be asked and answered. Strategic thinking drives BusinessPro4®️

preparation power

Early Vision vs. Late Action

BusinessPro4®️ invests heavily in upfront planning to ensure all potential areas of risk and work detail is identified early and planned in appropriately. Time spent planning upfront delivers on time projects and programmes – BusinessPro4®️ implements a continuous planning process augmented by deep dive workshops throughout the project delivery lifecycle.

Early Understanding vs. Disaster Recovery

The planning process is truly critical to the success of any project or programme. Understanding risk areas early on will save more than man hours. Brand image and reputation is king in this consumer marketplace. BusinessPro4®️ identifies all categories of risk early on in the planning session to ensure the appropriate countermeasures are identified and implemented.

expert empowerment

Engaged and Enabled vs. Distracted & Demotivated

BusinessPro4®️ Programme and Project Managers implement a servant leader approach to project delivery. BusinessPro4®️ delivery structures mirror the client organisation. The delivery structure is built upon work streams which replicate the functional areas and are led by lead Subject Matter Experts (or workstream lead performers from that function who have the backing of the Head of Department or line management).

Subject Matter experts or Lead Performers from a particular functional area are experts in their work stream for a reason – they hold the knowledge. BusinessPro4®️ servant leader programme and project managers ensure the SMEs priority work stream needs are being served. Work stream leads managed this way become empowered, unconstrained and more likely to better serve the programme, project and organisation.

This is also based on the division of labour theory.

“Division of labour, it is a matter of dispute, but management theory about division of labour indicates that profits or outputs are maximised if people specialise and do what they are trained to do”

SMEs must be given license to deliver, that license comes from the project, programme and functional head. BusinessPro4®️ is built around enabling the SMEs to deliver using the servant leader approach. Businesspro4®️ removes SME barriers, supports solutions thinking and provides the SME with the required tools and resources needed to successfully deliver their work stream management plan. At its basic level BusinessPro4®️ Programme and Project Managers take on all tasks and activities that allow the SME or Lead Performer to problem solve and work on delivering their ‘outputs’. BusinessPro4®️ PM’s facilitate and lead the planning workshops, capturing the output from the SMEs and creating the SME Workstream Management Plans, they ensure any obstacles in the SME or Lead Performers way are removed which includes engaging with their line to mitigate work capacity conflicts.

BusinessPro4®️ has been built on ideas such as the servant leader approach which has been in development for 40 years.

tractable tools

Precision Data Capture vs. Missed Risks

Identifying the necessary level of requirements gathering is subjective. SMEs (Subject Matter Experts) will naturally underestimate what is required or use a one size fits all approach based on previous experiences.

BusinessPro4®️ provides the processes and tools to ensure the correct level of detail is collected when gathering requirements. All risks and issues will be identified early if the right data is captured during the initial and ongoing planning process. The BusinessPro4®️ portfolio of tools guides behaviour and is dynamic and flexible enough to be used on the go.

The transfer of knowledge is key to the business decision making process which underpins the level of success delivered by the project or programme.

Managing Programmes using BusinessPro4®️

BP4®️ Programmes will include a combination of projects and work streams. The programme project’s will be led by project managers who would then structure their projects using departmental subject matter expert led work streams (or sub‐projects). Ideally the PMs should be procured from the actual department, if not you may have to buy in experienced resource. If you are lucky enough to secure a departmental PM then that PM would most likely double up as the lead performer for one or more work streams within that particular project.
